Holiday City Amateur Radio Club
Field Day 2008
On Saturday the 28th of June 2008, the Holiday City Amateur Radio Club, W2HC, gathered together for its participation in the annual ARRL Field Day event. About 75% of the membership was in attendance along with a few of the member’s wives, guests and visitors. Antennas were the first to go up and with a coordinated effort they were up and running in no time. Then the radio stations with the tuners, cables etc were assembled and tested. Next was to establish power which was provided with a nice generator that went along almost un-noticed the entire day. Now what would Field Day be without high heat, humidity and the occasional rain shower! Yes we had it all. The club established two operating stations along with a GOTA station coached by Larry K2QDY. The stationed was operated by Bob Forshee KC2QMZ and his daughter Darlene, John Hann W2JWH and Dave Ottenburg WA2DJN. All in all the stations were in operation from 2:00PM to about 9:00PM on Saturday. I think everyone left at the end of the day exhausted but with a good feeling of accomplishment that if called upon we could provide our community with emergency communications if needed.
